Blog

It's been too long

I've been rubbish on the Old Blog Front and for that if you are an avid reader I appologise.

Well panto has been and gone, and it was another successful run! I loved being back in Doncaster and had a great time working with a superb cast.

But it is over, all my dresses wigs and shoes have been packed up for another year, and who knows what dresses and wigs I will be pulling out next year.

Once I finished panto I had chance to see a few other shows around the country, I mentioned in my previous blog I got to see Sleeping Beauty in Sheffield which was a superb production. Once I was back in the Midlands I made it to see Cinderella at the Hippodrome, I couldn’t wait to see this as it had my two very good friends in, Martin Ramsdin and David Robins - who make fabulous, glamourous sisters! And they didn't disappoint!

Talking of sisters, I also made it down to see my very good friends Michael and Ian, The Uglies at the Marlowe in Canterbury! What a pair they make with costumes changes galore and some done in under 20 seconds! They were excellent, that was another Evolution pantomime and again superb!

I am looking forward to a bit of a different year this year, I am off to the hippodrome to work back stage, I am looking forward to working on some big shows and working full time in the theatre. My taste for being back stage was rekindled the other week when I was aloud to help back stage in the Wig Department of the Uk tour of sister Act. I had a great day and a big thanks to David Birt for getting me back there.

I saw the show too, it is brilliant! A great score and a great cast, full of laughs and songs that you cant help but tap your feet to. If you didn't make it to Wolverhampton to see it, it is on tour all year and will be in Birmingham I believe in October, so book your tickets early!

Well I am off to cook me sunday lunch now! I’ll try and Blog more often! Apologies if I don't!

Half Way

Well it's nearly Christmas, Panto season is well and truley underway! I thought it was about time I did a little blog as I haven't done one in quiet a while!

We opened a week ago in Sleeping Beauty in Doncaster for Sheer Enchantment, and the audiences are loving it! My dresses are all working and are getting the repsonses I want. Nigel Peever is back and this year he is playing Carabose the evil fairy who casuses Sleeping Beauty to "die" and if it wasn't for our Brillaint fairy Fifi she would be dead, but as all good fairy stories we now know, there is a happy eneding and she sleeps for 100 years before meeting the man of her dreams! Nigel is getting a lovely amount of Boo's this year, he is such a wonderful villain to work with, he knows how to be evil, get the boo's but also milk the laughs! My comic this year is Joe Fisher, he is a lovely bloke and a great comic and it's been a pleasure to work with him, every scene we are in together we bounce of each other and have a real laugh! Russ Spence off of Eurovision Scooch is storming it as our Prince! The ladies love him and he look like a great princeple boy! My daughter Annable Jones (Yorke) is such a wonderful Principle Girl, she can sing, dance and she looks the part! She has a wonderful stage persona! Which brings me to Steve Huison! off of Full Monty Fame and Corry!! What a wonderful man, and a great characer actor! He is playing my husband King Eddie! And between us we are making a great double act, and he doesnt mind being man handled! And when you have a wife like me you don't get much of a choice, he alows me to throw him round the stage and have a lot of fun with the script! I am loving working with him and hope to again in the future! And that leaves me, the beauty element of the show... booked on my looks I think! I am playing Queen Hilda, Mother to sleeping Beauty and long suffering wife of Eddie! But don't worry I can handle myself!

So we have been open a week, we have had screaming kids crying kids, and thats just back stage! The audience are laughng in alll the right places, most of the time! And clapping in all the right places... I think!! :) The Technical rehearsals went really rather well, in the theatre world the dreaded tech can sometimes go on 15 hours or more, Mr David Lee was up supervising the major transformation scene, once that was out the way the rest of the show seemed to fly by. And the joys on being a dame, no transofmation scene, so I got to sit in the stalls, and watch everyone else do all the hard work! In Doncaster we have a dress rehearsal as standard, and then what we call and open dress, tickets are given away to the sponsers and the people watching know it's a dress and are told that the show could stop if anything goes wrong! Which they appear to be hopeing is going to happen! This year they loved it! And we managed to get through the whole show without incident!!

If you want to come and see the show and see all I am talking about you can book tickets by ringing - 01301 342 349 we run right through till the 31st of December!

Last night on my night off from Sleeping Beauty I went on a Bus Man's Holiday to see The Sheffield Lycemum's version of Sleeping beauty! It was great to see a different version and to see how someone else has written the script! This version was done by Paul Hendy of Evolution Pantomimes and was brilliant! Great comedy from one of Britains top dames - Damian Williams! If you get the chance to see him work do so, it was a joy to watch, and afterwards we met up and had a drink in the bar, we have been twitter friends for a year now, but this was the first time we met properly! What a lovely chap!

While in sheffield I managed to get all my Chistmas shopping done too!! What a relief!! At least I now know it's all done and I can put my feet up...well not really...as 2 shows's a day now all the way up untill Christmas!!

On a different note but in a similar vain, I bought some new shoes...for me...not for Hilda...all of Hilda's shoes are fine..not a problem, the first proper pair of male shoes I buy and I've got 2 great big blisters on my little toes!! GREAT!!

Also Look out for my article that's gone into a Yorkshire Magazine called East Side, I have a double Page spread all about me and pantomime!! VEry Chuffed!!

Well It's time for me to blow out the candles and say good night!! I'll try and blog again soon!! Na Na Night!

:)

Panto Done!

Well that's all Folks!!!

I finished pantomime over 2 weeks ago now, sorry for the delay in blogging, although I haven't done anything I appear to have done a lot! Today I saw my last of this seasons pantomimes (I Think) I went to see Aladdin at the Wolverhampton Grand with good old Biggins! It brought back memories of my Aladdin, obviously some of the jokes get recycled, but one in particular stood out as me and Jimmy did it and never got a laugh unless we had comics in the audience, and I think the same joke had been working the same in Wolverhampton, so today with me and my good friend Naughty Nigel Harvey in the audience it got a good laugh!! They worded it slightly differently though... "Is that perfume I smell?" "It is and you do!" is the reply! It's quick and a bit to clever most of the time but it tickled me!!!

I also managed to meet up with fellow Dame Martin Ramsdin as we went to see Dick Whittington at the Birmingham Hippodrome! Julian Clary stole the show for me with hid Fabulous costumes and great innuendo.

Have been catching up with some friends as well managed to have a chat with Mark Kimber, from Mark and Jae - Athena Productions based in Blackpool...we did some net working and if you have a look in the link section you will see he managed to persuade me put a link on the web site! Bless them! However, they are a wonderful company, doing great show reels and some lovely portfolio work check them out!

I finished panto and made it home the same evening, thanks to dad, he managed to get all the wigs in one car and I got everything else in the other!!  It was good to be home but after two days off I was wanting to be back on stage doing panto! This year I made some lovely friends and it was great to be working with my favourite villain again Mr Nigel Peever! Jimmy Cricket was absolutely lovely, him and Mrs Cricket through a last night party for us and it was so nice! :) Hopefully I will be putting some pictures of that up on here soon!!

Well I am off out now to meet up with a dancing friend from panto and pontins for her Birthday!

So I shall Blog again soon no doubt! Don't go far!! Ohhh and if you are on facebook please follow my Dame Page Press like at the top of it... Search "Sam Rabone - Pantomime Dame" that should find me!!

10 Shows Left

Hi guys!

Just ten shows left! Panto has flown by again! Once we open we seem to be shutting! It's been a great run here in Doncaster, we have had great full houses with great audiences who have been very responsive and seem to love the show as much as we have loved putting it on!

I managed to get home for Christmas day, which was a great day, however I did end up cooking Christmas dinner again with my brother! Then straight back ton Doncaster for 2 shows on boxing day!

Over the past few weeks I have managed to get to see a couple of panto's too, I saw Red Riding Hood in Birdwell, with my good friend Naughty Nigel Harvey as Dame Granny Hood! It was a fantastic show, and had a really good script with a lot of it sticking to the folk law, a really enjoyable show with a great sound track to accompany it.

I shall give some more reviews later!!

My costumes are lasting really well, thanks to Melanie Mylie for them, and the wigs are looking ever so good in the pictures, I shall get some up in a gallery when I get home! The wigs from my friend from THE GLAM SISTERS Michael Bachelor, look great with the costumes, and my finale wig looks super under the lights! So a BIG thank you to him!

Also recently I had my first proper TV appearance on the Weakest Link Loud for a Living special, if you didn't see it I can now say I lasted 3 rounds and had a great day and met some lovely people! The walk of shame was great fun, and my end clip was 20 minutes long, so how they managed to edit it down to 1 sentence is a small miracle!

Anyway a happy new year to you all, as I say Pictures will be up soon!

Doncaster has been great! I've met some great people and had a great run here! 10 shows to go!! My feet cant wait!

Chat soon!
